Wedding Crashers

So no we didn't crash a wedding, but in true Jan style we were invited the night before by people we had just met. They either liked Jan or Belle. I wasn't quite sure but they insisted we bring Belle to the celebration. We had a great time dancing and eating an amazing spread of tasty specialties all made by the café owner, Mira. I even got to sneak a few video clips of everyone dancing and singing together. I will post the video once I figure how to upload it from my phone.

Secondhand shopping

I have totally become my mom's daughter. I am OBSESSED with the secondhand store in my town, the cirkle. It is has been fantastic for picking up odds and ends for my home. Especially since we sold everything, or gave it to my parents, back home. Today I found a set of copper pots and handmade cowboy boots. With a little elbow grease, lemon and salt I was able to bring some shine back to the pots. I am not saying that these are top of the line, but for what I paid for them it was worth investigating. TGIF everyone!!!

Sunday Morning Style

It is a beautiful morning here in Zelzate. Usually on Sunday's people go to the bakery and stock up on bread for breakfast, but we wanted to get out of the house. Belle, my beloved dachshund, and I were going to visit Gent, but decided it would be better to have a coffee at our favorite café, Markt 19. We were in luck! Today they were serving all their customers some dried ham directly from the leg. Such a treat. They always give us something yummy to snack on. Love spending Sundays here.

Herfst Vakantie

I am super excited because this week I don't have class, fall vacation. So... I get to go the weekly market and take pictures. I have been wanting to do this for a while, but the market is always closing by the time I finish school. I probably went a little crazy with the pictures but it was soooooo much fun for me. The only thing that could make it better would be having Belle tag along. The perfect european image of a woman and her small dog browsing the market. Unfortunately due to her exaggerated fear of anyone else besides her family, she has to stay home. It is too difficult to walk her, carry my things from the market, and manage to interact with everyone else, when Belle is darting under my feet every five seconds.

So in the picture you see all the veggies: carrots, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and bean sprouts. Guess how much they cost? ... €3!!! For everything!!! Then I picked up some fresh bread for Jan's lunch. A roasted chicken and potatoes for dinner tonight. You can even buy clothes, hence the black socks. Throw in some homemade borste worst (dried sausage) rillette, a kilo of minced meat, two succulent plants to add to my garden and my cart/buggy was at it's capacity. All in all it was a great morning. Happy Monday everyone :)

Wall decals

Yesterday, we took the motorbike to Ikea. Which made me so happy to finally get some odds and ends that we had needed for a while. Somehow though I always seem to underestimate how cold it can be on the motorbike. I was about at my body's threshold for cold when we arrived. To get to the point, I found some cool wall decals to put on my fridge and a huge wooded cutting board that fits over my counter top. It made me feel good to have jan offer to go get things for the apartment. It makes living here seem more permanent.

I love Ikea so much. It is so inspiring to see what they do with very little space. I honestly couldn't sleep last night, so I just drew up a bunch of floor plans and sketches of what I would like to do with our apartment.

Xxx,
Erin
